FGCU Academy - Nanotechnology: Potential Therapeutics for Treatment of Infection/Disease
Nanotechnology: Potential Therapeutics for Treatment of Infection and Disease
Dr. Lee is Director of the Bio Nano Lab at FGCU. Nanotechnology is the understanding, control, and successful manipulation of matter at dimensions of roughly 1 to 100 nanometers in size. At this Nano-level the physical and chemical properties of materials differ in fundamental and valuable ways. Nanoparticles (NPs) possess these distinctive physicochemical properties, promising a wide variety of applications, ranging from design of high-quality consumer products to effective disease diagnosis and treatment therapeutics. Dr. Lee will discuss how NPs can be used to devise new diagnostic tools through targeting the cell for identification purposes. She will also explore how the NP can be employed as a delivery vehicle to deliver drugs just to the diseased or infected cells, preserving the vitality of our healthy cells. Join us for this fascinating lecture on the forefront of science and technology. Speaker: Dr. Kerry J. Lee
