Honoring Three Remarkable Florida Women
$25
WB0210 – October 9 at 10am – 11:15am, Friday
We recently celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Ratification of the 19th Amendment and women's right to vote. Historian and author Ted Ehmann will share the stories of three incredible Florida women who broke down stereotypes and chartered new horizons for women in the United States. Using vintage photographs and film, Ehmann will highlight the lives of Seminole hero and leader Aunt Polly Parker, who refused to be removed from her home and escaped her U.S. Army captors and made the dangerous flight to return to Florida. He will tell the inspiring story of African-American writer, anthropologist and filmmaker Zora Neale Hurston and finally our world-famous marine biologist and shark behavior specialist, Dr. Eugenie Clark who relocated here in the 1950's and founded the MOTE Marine Laboratory in Cape Haze. Their bravery and can-do attitudes should inspire you. Instructor: Ted Ehmann
