The Celtic Connection
We know a great deal about Greek and Roman culture because the Greeks and Romans wrote a lot. The unlettered Celts remain a mystery. The ancient Celts, a "people without a history," distinguished themselves in battle and tormented the famed Roman army. The Celts of Ireland may be said to have preserved much of western civilization after the fall of the Roman Empire. Modern Celts enjoy a distribution even wider than their ancient forebears.
