This presentation is on the effect of sleep disorders on neurocognitive function, weight management and occupational safety. Sleep health is not commonly included in most medical school curriculum. Males between 30-60 years of age have a 25% incidence of sleep apnea. Chronic insomnia affects 30-40% of the population. Medications are not first line therapy for insomnia. Narcolepsy symptoms typically begin a decade prior to receiving an appropriate diagnosis. Sleep deprivation leads directly to weight gain. Sleep-related fatigue costs businesses $150 billion a year.
