The content of this lecture will be to set Vincent van Gogh's life, character and spiritual emptiness in the period that followed the most exciting time in history; when worldviews were eternally changed by the Renaissance, the Protestant and Catholic Reformations, the scientific revolution and the period of Enlightenment. We will study his most famous painting, The Starry Night and his emotional, philosophical, scientific insights and theological beliefs behind it. Additionally, we will look at several of his other paintings along with Hubble photos of the cosmos, that when shown with expressive thought, bring incredible insight into the relationship between art, faith, reason and nature.
