When the Japanese opened their ports to the West in 1854 after nearly two centuries of isolation, Japanese goods of all types from porcelains, silks and fans to woodblock prints reached the shores of Europe and America and they created a sensation. It was a craze called "Japonisme" and its ideas and techniques revolutionized the fine and decorative arts of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Instructor: Carol Jonson

  • Online programs are typically 60 minutes of lecture with 15 minutes of Q&A at the END of the presentation. Students will be able to type questions into the system at any time during the presentation.
