In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Latin Fiesta: Music of Latin America explores the origins of Latin American music. Journey back in time to witness the extraordinary feats of the ancient empires of Mesoamerica and South America and the importance of music to their cultures. With the conquest and colonization undertaken by Iberian nations, the face of Central and South America became a mixture of three cultures: Amerindian, Spanish, and African. Explore how music was used in the colonization of the Americas by the Spanish and how European polyphony became part the emerging culture of colonial Spain. Musical selections will feature the works of Gerardo Rodriguez, Silvestre Revueltas, Carlos Chavez, Gabriela Frank, Ernesto Lecuona, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Alberto Ginastera, Astor Piazzolla, and Camila Cabello. - Online programs are typically 60 minutes of lecture with 15 minutes of Q&A at the END of the presentation. Students will be able to type questions into the system at any time during the presentation.
- No software or downloads are required. Students can participate using a desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet.
