Posterity, Economy and Environment: A Strategy for a Sustainable Florida WB0127
Friday, June 26th
10:00 am 11:15 am
$25 per person

Recent environmental challenges such as: the 2018-2019 Red Tide Event in SW Florida; the Harmful Algae Blooms (HAB) within Lake Okeechobee, the Caloosahatchee River and the St. Lucie River; the health issues associated with HAB Blue-Green Algae (Cyanobacteria); and most recently the COVID-19 Pandemic, have served notice that our social behavior and the manner by which we protect and maintain the integrity of our environment are inextricably bound to long-term economic stability. As we face these and similar future challenges, we will be forced to re-examine our culture, our economy and our behavioral paradigms. In this lecture we will review some of the basic ideologies and directives provided by our founding fathers (and mothers), including their intent regarding our obligations to our future generations. We will also explore how the scientific realities of dynamical system behavior and our survivability are directly correlated to the seriousness of our efforts to establish and sustain a dynamic equilibrium within our environment, our economy and our social principles.
