The Way of St. James, "El Camino de Santiago" in Spanish, was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during the Middle Ages, in addition to Rome and Jerusalem. Legend tells us that the remains of St. James the Apostle were buried in this area of Galicia and are now interred in the Cathedral in the ancient city of Santiago de Compostela. Annually thousands of pilgrims travel on foot, bicycle, horse and vehicle along the varied historic routes, all of which lead to the ancient walled city of Santiago de Compostela. This lecture will examine the history of the Camino and learn about the personal experience of the pilgrim-presenter. Instructor: Dr. Christine Zimmer
