Impressionism as a movement lasted only a decade in France, but it got the art world’s attention after only eight shows. The Impressionists are more recognizable than any other artists. They demonstrated a passion for everyday life. The modernity of the city and the pastoral beauty of their gardens gave rise to some of the most memorable and significant paintings of the 19th and 20th centuries. Despite the fact that Eduardo Manet did not participate in any of the eight impressionist shows, he was their guiding light and their principal source of inspiration. Called Société Anonyme des Artistes, the first meetings were organized by Manet and attended by Brazille, Monet, Degas, Bracquemond, Renoir, Steven, and sometimes Pissaro, Cezanne, and Sisley.
