RA: The Pueblo Incident: Cold War Intelligence
The Pueblo Incident: Cold War Intelligence
A review of cold war intelligence, especially the seizure of the US spy ship Pueblo in international waters in 1968 by North Korea. DPRK is a threat to world peace. Its leader is a deranged despot who controls a huge standing army and uses his nuclear arsenal to bully the world. He lacks the ability to deliver his weapons to the US mainland, but he tweaks the US, as his grandfather did in 1968. One Pueblo crewman was killed and 82 were imprisoned and tortured for 11 months. Topics: the Pueblo mission and attack; diplomatic efforts; cold war "research" vessels; Russian "trawlers,” the captain and executive officer; aftermath. Instructor: Thomas Eastwood
