What is Cloud Computing and How Can We Use It?
This class is for both Mac and Windows users. This lecture-style class will begin with an introduction to cloud computing: what clouds are and who provides them. It seems everyone is in the cloud business these days! How much do they cost? Why should I care? We will then migrate to a more detailed explanation of how to use clouds and cloud storage in our everyday lives. What is OneDrive, iCloud, iCloud Drive, Amazon Drive, Google Drive and Dropbox? How do we use them for a variety of tasks, from syncing notes, calendars, contacts, usernames in iCloud, OneNote, Word and Excel files in OneDrive, to using it to store documents in Pages, Numbers, Keynote and Word? We will conclude with a look at some innovative new offerings for storing photos for free in various clouds. Users should bring their own devices to be able to follow along. They should have downloaded any “cloud” apps that they are interested in using before coming to class. Instructor: John Guerra
