AMERICAN CAESAR: GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR
He had no equal on the battlefield. Douglas MacArthur was the grandson of a judge appointed by Abraham Lincoln, and the son of a career army officer who won the Medal of Honor in the Civil War. He had a "helicoptor Mom" who answered to the name of "Pinky." She knew the buttons and levers to push so as to project forward a military career that stood alone. He would have done it on his own. A believer in destiny as it pertained to self, MacArthur frequently exposed his body to hostile fire in three wars--WWI, WWII, and Korea--always responding, "There has never been a bullet with the name Douglas MacArthur on it." To him, all roads led to himself; he was vain, petty, narcissistic, an orator who could teach Churchill, and a soaring intellect, who cared deeply about the safety of his men. A one-of-a-kind extraordinary man.
