Cyber Conflicts and Geopolitics

Tuesday, March 16th
1:30 pm to 3:00 pm
Larry Russell

Larry Russell will offer a comprehensive presentation on the Internet and the World Wide Web, Malware, and Geopolitics, describing key characteristics, including: 50,000 interconnected local networks in the world to facilitate exchange of information, images, videos and social media. This is a unique example of agreement among virtually all countries and institutions. Also included in the presentation are descriptions of the Deep and the Dark Webs, which are vastly larger than the visible web. Building on the World Wide Web description, the evolution of Malware is described in understandable terms, revealing the wide range of threats to everyone—company, institution, or government. The presentation describes the related geopolitical issues and offers insights into the motives of the four major countries using Malware for their uniquely different strategic objectives. The presentation will also encourage participants' discussion of the unresolved issues apparent from the presentation.
