Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), along with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, was one of the top three U.S. Presidents. FDR was the only permanently disabled U.S. President ever elected and the only U.S. President elected to office four times, serving from 1933 to 1945. FDR led the U.S. in his wheelchair through arguably the most severe crises of the 20th century, including the Great Depression and World War II. During an era when fascism was in favor, FDR used his intelligence, uncanny political instinct, and social savvy to preserve and strengthen U.S. democracy and catapult the U.S. to the leading power in the world.
