imgItaly:  The Other Naples

Naples is Italy's third largest city (after Rome and Milan).  It's the birthplace of pizza!  The birthplace of debits-and-credits bookkeeping.  And, of course, the namesake of Naples, Florida.  Though other Italian cities attract more tourists, Naples actually has the largest historic city center in Europe, with 27 centuries of history.  Where else can you find a Castel Nuovo (New Castle) built in 1282?  Naples was a separate kingdom until as late as 1861.  We will take an excursion to Pompeii, discuss volcanoes in general, and the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD in particular.

Presented by Paul Pacter - Paul retired to Florida in 2018 from a 50-year career in accounting.  That included 25 years as a staff member, then Board member, of the International Accounting Standards Board in London.  His IASB work took him to over 70 countries.  He visited another 20 or so on holidays.  Paul lived more than 25 years overseas, including 20 in Hong Kong.  He is author or co-author of seven books and has published over 100 professional monographs and articles.  He says: "You're never too old to become enchanted with Florida's Everglades and swamps."
