THE CALUSA OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA

With his solid and broad background in applied anthropology, with an urban and medical focus, his leadership in the Southwest Florida Archaeology Society, which is involved in the recording of over a hundred local archaeology sites in the Florida Master Site File, his activities with the City of Bonita Springs Historical Preservation Board and the Bonita Springs Downtown Alliance as well as participation in numerous excavations and events with archaeologists on South Florida sites over the past thirty years, Charlie Strader has a deep knowledge of the Calusa people, Native American people of Florida's southwest coast whose society developed from that of archaic peoples of the Everglades region. This presentation will share information about the Calusa and the heritage of their civilization in our area.
