TIC - Three Women of Africa on African Women
Three Women of Africa on African Women
Mariama Bâ (d. 1981) of Senegal, Tsitsi Dangaremgba of Zimbabwe, and Unity Dow of Botswana are three writers who have made names for themselves on the international scene by presenting compelling stories of female characters who experience injustices in their communities but seek culture-defying changes. As Mariama Bâ said, "The woman writer in Africa has a special task. She has to present the position of women in Africa in all its aspects." This TIC session will be an exploration of three different African cultures and three different aspects of women's lives in those cultures. While there will be a short summary and references to written works, this is not a literary lecture but instead a broad look at three different African cultures, and it will include visuals.
